Intro
Addiction is often manifest as doing something because you feel drawn to it, even when you want to do something else.
It's a compulsive impulse - it feels as though you are possessed by some other power than your own self control.
It's a cascade - like slipping down a hill of ice.
It takes just a touch of force to propel someone in the direction of their addiction.
I suppose then it's a lack of self control.
It also may be a lack of awareness in the moment.
If I can catch myself each moment, I can be sure to stay on track.
If I can keep a clear vision of my path, then I can place myself back on that path whenever I falter.
If I don't know what my path is, how can I find my way back?
In attempting to quit these bad habits and replace them with good, I'm learning more about where I should be and what I should do.
I have read many books and studied in many forms of further education over the years, and for this I'm grateful.
I know the studies I've done have planted seeds in my mind that will help me solve these problems.
I also know that I've neglected their teaching when and where I find them too trying or too difficult.
I know I need to prioritize, to plan and to schedule.
I also need to stick to that plan and schedule, with diligence and discipline.
None would fault me for resting when I can't carry on, or when my work is done.
The fault is had when I choose to rest even when there is work to be done - when there is no excuse not to be making progress.
In many ways, one could say I'm hooked on this laziness.
A clear vision, a well laid plan, and diligent action towards their fulfillment will be a powerful part of the solution to my problem.
There is much to accomplish, but such is the case for anyone who wishes to achieve any form of goodness.
I find myself overwhelmed by all I hope to achieve, but I need to have faith and carry on.
All great accomplishments take time and fortitude.
So, as I grown in the patience and strength needed to fulfill my dreams and visions, I thank you for your patience and encouragement.
With love,
David
