Intro
Today was great, very productive.
I also got my popcorn to pop, which was nice lol
I was up early, and worked on getting my daily logs onto the website for the first couple of hours.
Honestly I feel uplifted overall, just being back to working.
It really helps to be able to see a light at the end of the tunnel and to put my skills to good use.
Sometimes I want it all to happen in the blink of an eye, but I need to remember to enjoy the process and keep moving forward at a reasonable pace on a daily basis.
I did some stretching, which is well overdue and is a habit I'm trying to get back in to gear.
I spent most of the rest of the day finishing the mouth component build that I re-started yesterday.
It had some serious cracking issues throughout the build - which is fairly common when I stick a bunch of small components together (like the teeth).
I tend to work these components fairly cold so that they don't distort upon assembly.
That can lead to some questionable welds that are inherent through the rest of the component build, though.
It can also be an issue with pockets of air when the final build is finished.
We have some solutions for both of those issues, so it's a calculated risk-take regardless.
The component got to be pretty sizable, and took most of our energy.
I'm glad it's finished, though.
Alejandro was very helpful again today - we chatted through most of the process.
Today we had raw milk, potato pancakes with sardines, and that popcorn I was able to pop.
In the last couple batches of organic popcorn I got off Amazon, the kernels have been burning rather than popping.
I learned through research that the kernels have to be a particular level of water-saturated.
I think it's something like 11-14%?
Anyway, I tried adding a squirt of water to a reused jar filled with popcorn kernels, which I store in the fridge.
If I heat them up just right, they seem to be popping perfectly now!
Small victory for which I'm grateful.
I have to sell some glass and hopefully get paid by my marketing clients before the end of the month.
Plenty bills coming up and no real cash to speak of!
See you in tomorrow's update where we work on the glasses and nose component as well as showcase the finished mouth component!
Oh, also!
I put my phone down on top of a hot weld of 12mm to 20mm clear - it's the chunk I prepped up to put end caps on the final pull.
Well, that totally melted my phone case and fried the camera on my phone.
I can order a replacement camera from eBay for 12 bucks shipped, new back glass for 9 bucks but I also need to order a cell phone repair toolkit off Amazon for 20 bones.
Not so bad, but I'll have to switch to my old phone for pictures for now, I think.
With love,
David
